Community input sought for improving the Noccalula Corridor

Gadsden, AL - The City of Gadsden is excited to participate in DesignAlabama's DesignPlace program. A team of design professionals including planners, architects, and landscape architects will come to Gadsden November 14-16 to meet with various stakeholders, hold charrettes for public input, and work on a plan using a design perspective to develop the Noccalula Corridor.

The DesignPlace program will focus on the Noccalula Corridor, along Noccalula Road/12th Street from the interstate to Meighan Blvd. The goal of this project is to look comprehensively at this corridor and find ways to build on the City's recent investments in the area and to unlock the economic and quality of life potential of this corridor.

Following Mayor Guyton's Participation in the Mayor's DesignSummit in Prattville, Gadsden was able to apply for the DesignPlace Program. "We think it is a great opportunity to bring in a new perspective to help us develop some strategies and plans to make the area around Noccalula Falls even better. We are looking to make this area more attractive and provide better access for local businesses and residents," said Gadsden Mayor Sherman Guyton.

The DesignPlace team will have two opportunities for community involvement: Thursday, November 14, 5:30-6:30 PM -Community Come and Go at Kiwanis Pavilion and Saturday, November 16, 1:00-2:00 PM- Community Come and Go at Kiwanis Pavilion. It is vital for the team to hear from the entire community about their vision for the Noccalua Corridor and how to improve the area.

"DesignAlabama is excited to be working in partnership with the City of Gadsden as part of our DesignPlace program. Gadsden is an amazing community and we can wait to bring in our team of design experts from across the state to be a small part in some of the next planning and design happening in this city. We are looking forward to looking closely at the Noccalula Falls corridor to help create a vision with community input, that will help to create a scenic and viable part of your community," said Gina Clifford, DesignAlabama Executive Director
