Gadsden, AL- On Friday September 6, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. the Gadsden Museum of Art will have an opening for the following exhibits: Derek Cracco, Associate Professor of printmaking and computer graphics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham will feature his show, Moments in Love, on the second floor. Professor of photography at the University of Alabama, Christopher Jordan will be featured in the Leo Reynolds Gallery on the first floor with his show Still Waters and Evelyn L. Brannon’s show titled Crossing Genres will remain in the two smaller galleries off of the main gallery. Light refreshments and public restrooms will be available at the reception from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Derek Cracco’s show, Moments in Love, features a mixture of traditional printmaking combined with computer graphics. Cracco’s work focuses on the way pulp publications affect us in our search for love. He writes in his artist’s statement, “The imagery challenges the viewer to consider the ideals promoted by pulp publications, and to compare them with the realities of their own lives and the concepts of romantic love.”

The museum will also host the Gadsden Art Associations 61st Annual Juried Show which includes oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastels, and three-dimensional art. Multiple artists from eight states submitted their work and were selected by a panel of judges. Local artist and professor, Ron Baker served as judge for prizes. The GAA will hold a public opening reception on August 24 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. where awards will be announced.

Crossing Genres, a series of paintings completed by Evelyn L. Brannon, who is a member of the Gadsden Art Association and retired college professor will continue to be on display. Brannon’s paintings are full of color depicting beautiful landscapes as well as outdoor and indoor still lifes.

Also remaining on display is Christopher Jordan’s work, Still Waters. Jordan’s work is a collection of photographs capturing the wetlands in nearby Marion, Alabama. Jordan’s opening reception will coincide with UAB artist Derek Cracco’s show, Moments in Love, which will be held on First Friday, September 6. Light refreshments and public restrooms will be available from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
