On Friday July 5, the Gadsden Museum of Art will have an opening reception for the following exhibits: Focus, the fourth annual juried photography exhibit in the Main Gallery; the second floor will feature a collection of saris from Nanda Patel and her own original art. Michelle Buck and Tobias Layman will feature their artwork in the two galleries off the main gallery.

Focus is hosted by the Gadsden Museum of Art and photography submitted is selected by a panel of silent judges to be on display and move on to the next round. Once selected both amateur and professional photographers bring their work to be on display from July 2- August 16. A local photographer will serve as the judge for first, second and third place. The annual photography show has been a staple of events at GMA for over 20 years and transitioned into a juried show in 2015. The titled show, Focus, is in its fourth year.

The Art of the Sari, a 60 year collection provided by Nanda Patel shows the rich background from which Patel descends. Patel has provided over 20 saris from herself and her matriarchal family and also includes her own expression of self in her painted sari. The sari collection will be on display from July 2- August 30. A special reception will be held on July 12 from 5-7 pm.

Noah Saterstrom’s work, Fever Dreams, is on display in the Leo Reynolds Gallery. Local artist Michelle Buck makes her debut with a special assemblage of shadow boxes, and recent University of Alabama graduate, Tobias Layman makes his first appearance with his collection of kinetic sculpture. First Friday will also feature recent JSU graduate Kara Lynn Clay with her painting collection, Foundation Plantings.

All shows open with First Friday in July. Light refreshments and public restrooms will be available from 5-7 p.m.
