The Gadsden/Etowah County Emergency Management Agency will soon transition the County’s Mass Notification system – Nixle – to a new system called Alert Etowah. Nixle was recently bought by Everbridge (the Alert Etowah provider) and the change became necessary. Alert Etowah offers a selection of methods to receive alerts, notifications, and warnings – many that were not available on Nixle. “This new tool is completely customizable to a user’s preferences,” said GECEMA Director Deborah Gaither. “Previously,” Gaither said, “weather alerts would have to be entered manually by EMA staff – using time that could be precious in an emergency situation.” Gaither continued, “With Alert Etowah, users will not only have the option to select which alerts they wish to receive, but the notification process is automated – to give you timely and accurate notification.” The targeted date to be fully transitioned is June 1, 2019.
