[ARCHIVED] September’s First Friday at Gadsden Museum of Art

Jane Phillips.jpg

On First Friday in September, September 2nd, the Gadsden Museum of Art will have an opening reception for two art exhibits, A Quiet Life by Gina Brown and Itineraries of Escape by Cindy Wagner and Jane Phillips, as well as the Alabama Makers mural by Christian Dunn with assistance by River Kiener.

Local artist, Gina Brown, is a graphic designer turned oil painter. She works full-time at her studio space in Glencoe, Al. She often participates in the Gadsden Museum’s Southeastern Plein Air Exhibit, and her work is shown at galleries in Florida, Georgia, Ohio, and South Carolina.

Cindy Wagner and Jane Phillips are studio artists at Lowe Mill in Huntsville, Alabama. Jane Philips, a graduate of Maryland Institute of Art with a BFA in painting, creates large, expressive mixed media paintings and drawings using a mixture of conventional and unconventional materials. Cindy studied Interior Design, Visual Communications, and Photography, and she holds a BFA in Painting from Herron School of Art and Design Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis.  Cindy experiments with many different mediums and techniques to produce haunting figurative work.

In order to celebrate the addition of the new mural on the GMA’s building, the children’s activity for the evening is a mini-mural. From 5pm to 7pm, children are welcome to come and put their mark on a giant canvas which will later be displayed in the classroom. The Alabama Makers mural was made possible with the help of Hugh Stump and Greater Gadsden Area Tourism.

The reception and children’s activities are free and open to the public. The reception will be from 6pm to 8pm. Refreshments and light hors d’oeuvres will be served. Also on display is Michael Moore’s Life Unedited. For more information, contact museum staff at (256)-546-7365.
