Police and Fire Entry Level

The City of Gadsden will be accepting applications for Police and Fire entry-level exams. Testing will be given the months of January, February, April, June, August and October. The test will be given on the 4th Wednesday of each of these months. The deadline to submit your application is the 3rd Wednesday of each of these months.

A Civil Service fee of 1.50 (each exam) must be paid to the Revenue Department on the 1st floor of City Hall.

Application and receipt will need to be submitted to the Personnel Department on the 2nd floor of City Hall.

The age requirement is: Police - 21 to 45 or 49 with four years military service.
Fire - Must be 18 but less than 39 years of age.

A Study Guide will be given along with the test date after the receipt and application has been received in the Personnel Office.

Apply in Room 20l, Gadsden City Hall, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Passing test scores will be valid for two(2) years from the test date. If you fail the test or wish to better your score, you may take the test again within a six month period.

If you a considered for hire the following will be some of the requirements you will have to complete:

General Requirements: Written Examination, Oral Interview, Physical Examination, Background Investigation, Polygraph, Psychological, Education(applicant must be a graduate of a high school accredited with or approved by the State Department of Education or shall be the holder of a certificate of high school equivalency issued by general education development).
