The Management Information Services Department (MIS) is a service center for all departments of the City of Gadsden providing a way and means to further automate each department economically and efficiently with information technology. Information technology is defined as including all business data processing, and data communications equipment, software, resources, and services. The overall mission of the MIS department is to provide quality data processing and support to the City in an efficient and cost effective manner by continuously planning, evaluating, developing, and implementing programs in support of City approved objectives and priorities.
Our present system consists of an LAN wirelessly linking 16 remote sites to our AS/400 and 3 meg DSL internet connection. We have 140 individual PC workstations using Client Access to communicate with our AS/400 and the HTE software which provides our records keeping capabilities.
Our web site is evolving from a purely informational site to a more interactive asset. In the future it will provide instant access to many transactional activities that require an on site visit to the City Hall at present.
