Over the past four years, the Gadsden/Etowah County Emergency Management Agency has been working on a major extension of the AlertEtowah warning system, with the help of the Baron Critical Weather Institute.
This particular project includes the installations of weather stations and live-feed tower cameras across the county.
The goal behind this system is to create a greater situational awareness for all citizens in Etowah County.
Strategically placed tower cams and weather stations will give responders real-time information needed in times of emergency, whether the event is severe weather, fire, security, traffic, or Hazmat related.
Currently, 10 cameras and weather stations have been installed in 7 municipalities in Etowah County. These locations include Altoona, Attalla, City of Gadsden, Glencoe, Hokes Bluff, Southside and Rainbow City.
In the future, three more sites are expected to be equipped with these new AlertEtowah capabilities in Sardis City, Boaz and both sides of the brow on Lookout Mountain.
