GADSDEN, AL, October 21, 2019 - - The 2019-2020 season of the Etowah Youth Orchestras opens on Sunday, November 3 with the EYO Fall Formal Concert, a part of The Daniel Foundation of Alabama Concert Series. The performance will be held at the Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center on the campus of Gadsden State Community College. The 2 PM performance will feature the EYO’s three after-school ensembles – the Etowah Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Etowah Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Etowah String Sinfonia.
The Youth Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of EYO Music Director Mike Gagliardo, will perform Tchaikovsky’s Marche Slav and a suite from George Gershwin’s An American in Paris. Also on the program is the Overture from North By Northwest by Bernard Herrmann, composed for the Alfred Hitchcock film.
The Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, which is under the direction of Gagliardo and EYO Assistant Conductor Debbie Boos, features music from the motion pictureThe Avengers and an orchestration of the Shaker melody “Simple Gifts.”
Both the Youth Symphony and the Youth Philharmonic will pay tribute to Beethoven on the performance, with the Symphony playing the second movement of the composer’s Symphony No. 7, and the Philharmonic performing the second and fourth movements of Symphony No. 9. Beethoven’s 250th birthday will be celebrated in 2020.
The String Sinfonia, under the direction of EYO Assistant Conductor Bryce Anderson, will feature music by Alan Moss, Robert Frost, and G.F. Handel.
Tickets for the EYO Fall Formal Concert are $10-12, and are available online at www.wallacehall.org and in person at the front desk of the Mary G. Hardin Center for Cultural Arts. Tickets may also be purchased at the Wallace Hall box office on the day of the performance, beginning one hour prior to the concert.
