Starting Monday, September 16 portions of Locust Street in Downtown Gadsden will be closed. Through a partnership with the Alabama & Tennessee River Railway and the City of Gadsden major repairs will be made. The needed repairs will start with the westernmost section of Locust, from 6th to 5th Streets.
Work crews from ATN Railway will remove the rubberized track running along Locust Street, replace cross ties and the City of Gadsden will mill and repave the road, curb to curb. This process will take some time and traffic will detour around the area.
Local detours and traffic control will be used around the construction areas and local businesses affected by the work have been notified, but those using the road should make plans to avoid the area.
