[ARCHIVED] Gallery Talk and Reception with Artist at Hardin Center

The Hardin Center opens two new art exhibitions on January 12. There is an opportunity to meet the artist from one of the exhibitions on Tuesday, January 15 from 5-7 pm.Retrospective is composed of the work Rebeca Calderón Pittman, a Guatemala native who now resides in Cincinnati.  She will discuss her work with a gallery talk and be available for questions during a reception with light refreshments.

Drawing for Rebeca Calderón Pittman is not just a way of translating form to page, but also of incorporating herself in the world around her. Her drawings are direct renderings from life and she creates paintings and drawings by combining layers of reality. She melds together linear drawings of objects and settings with complex painted surfaces to create a visual poetry of memory and transformation.

“This gallery talk is a wonderful chance for folks to hear about these beautiful abstracts directly from the artist. We’re certain that visitors will enjoy this opportunity to both view the art and learn about Pittman’s unique process,” said Hardin Center deputy director Tom Banks.

The event is free for Hardin Center members and included with regular admission for non-members. Imagination Place  will remain open until 8 pm so that families can enjoy both the event with the artists and playtime in the children’s museum.

In addition to Pittman’s Retrospective, Natural Duality by Kim Thoman will also be on view and available to those attending the reception. Thoman’s work includes a variety of materials juxtaposed to reflect her interest in the dynamic of dualities.

Both exhibitions will be on view until March 16. All-day admission is $8 per person, free for Hardin Center members, and free for children under 24 months. Admission includes Imagination Place. Learn more at
