[ARCHIVED] Inclement Weather Threat Causes Gadsden Christmas Parade Cancellation

Gadsden, AL - As of 1 p.m. today the Gadsden Christmas Parade Committee met. After consulting James Spann of ABC 33/40, it truly saddens all of us to announce that the Gadsden Christmas Parade scheduled for this Saturday, December 8th, is canceled due to the threat of inclement weather. Our goal has always been to host a parade where all the children could participate in one way or another, but this weather would make that both unsafe and unpleasant. I am including my correspondence with Mr. Spann herein:

Email to James Spann: December 4th at 4:25 pm
James, Glen Williams, Gadsden Kiwanis Club here, our Christmas parade is scheduled for this Saturday at 10:30 am, line up at 8:30 / 9:00, I do not see a chance of this weather not happening, but I need to make a final decision and announce something. Need your input.

Email Reply: Dec 4th at 5:03 pm
Hey Glen....
Unfortunately, it looks like a cold, soaking rain all day Saturday. Wish I had better news...

James Spann, CBM
ABC 33/40 Chief Meteorologist

We regret that the parade will not be rescheduled. The December calendar of events is already packed with a host of holiday activities, which also makes it difficult to reschedule the voluntaries that make this event possible. It is a sad day for all of us. We apologize for the inconvenience, but the weather is beyond our control.

We do suggest you make sure to visit Christmas at the Falls and you can still catch the Attalla Christmas Parade tomorrow evening, Thursday, December 6th.

WITH REGRETS,

GADSDEN KIWANIS CLUB
