GADSDEN, AL, October 12, 2018 - - The 2018-2019 season of the Etowah Youth Orchestras opens on Sunday, November 4 with the EYO Fall Formal Concert. The performance will be held at the Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center on the campus of Gadsden State Community College. The 2 PM performance will feature the Etowah Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the premiere performances of the EYO’s two new after-school ensembles, the Etowah Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and the Etowah String Sinfonia.
The Youth Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of EYO Music Director Mike Gagliardo, will perform the Finale of Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, along with music by Ernesto Lecuona and Stella Sung. Also included on the Symphony’s program is music from the Broadway hit “Les Miserables.” The premiere performance of the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, which is under the direction of Gagliardo and EYO Assistant Conductor Debbie Boos, features music by Tchaikovsky, Gliere and Vaughan Williams, plus selections from the original motion picture soundtrack of “Apollo 13.” For the first performance of the String Sinfonia, under the direction of EYO Assistant Conductor Bryce Anderson, the program will be selected from music of Offenbach, J.S. Bach, Haydn, Mozart and Rimsky-Korsakov.
Tickets for the EYO Fall Formal Concert are $10-12 and are available online at www.wallacehall.org and in person at the front desk of the Mary G. Hardin Center for Cultural Arts. Tickets may also be purchased at the Wallace Hall box office on the day of the performance, beginning one hour prior to the concert.
