[ARCHIVED] Gadsden Celebrates National Parks and Recreation Month

Get Your Play On Social Media schedule

July is National Park and Recreation month, and the City of Gadsden’s Parks and Recreation Department is celebrating by bringing outdoor games and activities to a new park each weekend in July with its Get Your Play On campaign.

Parks and Recreation staff will be in a different city park from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday in July. The staff will provide games like giant Jenga, bean bag toss, and ladder ball with other summer toys like bubbles, hula hoops, and jump ropes for children to play with.

In conjunction with National Park and Recreation Month, the City of Gadsden has plans for the renovation of several city parks, including Moragne Park. Dwight Park, Louis Street Park, Cherry Street Park, and Hastings Park have already been renovated with new playground equipment.

Gadsden’s Get Your Play On campaign is a branch of the National Recreation and Park Association’s (NRPA) annual Park and Recreation Month. NRPA encourages people to be active and involved in July, whether they visit parks on their own or participate in events put on by their local parks and recreation department.  The Parks and Recreation Department hopes that the Get Your Play On event will encourage residents to take advantage of Gadsden’s passive parks. These parks, though they do not have playground equipment, provide ample space for outdoor recreation and relaxation.

For more information on the Get Your Play On campaign, contact the City of Gadsden Parks and Recreation Department at 256-549-4680.
