Gadsden, Alabama – The City of Gadsden is excited to announce that the Tuscaloosa Avenue Bridge opened today Tuesday November 15, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication. The bridge replacement project started at the beginning of 2016. The project was guided by, JBWT, Inc. the consultant engineer that handled design and construction engineering/inspection services and the bridge was built by Bridge Builders of Alabama. Strong direction and focus from the City of Gadsden Engineering Department helped keep the infrastructure project on track.
The new Tuscaloosa Avenue Bridge is designed to meet new capacity and strength standards and complies with modern safety guidelines. The new bridge will increase safety for motorists on Tuscaloosa Ave. The previous bridge over Black Creek was built prior to the 1940s and was found to be structurally deficient and in need of replacement.
Tuscaloosa Avenue is an important corridor and the bridge replacement will provide better and safer traffic patterns for the neighborhood. Additionally, the Tuscaloosa Avenue bridge offers an alternate route and detour over Black Creek if U.S. Highway 431 needs to be closed.
