The City of Gadsden Farmer’s Market has a new home. After years of shifting locations the farmers and shoppers that make up the Gadsden Farmer’s Market have a new permanent home. The City of Gadsden has purchased a building at the corner of 5th Street and Locust Street to create a new venue named the 5th Street Market.

The 5th Street Market is a new venue for the City of Gadsden. Situated in Downtown Gadsden the converted warehouse will allow the Gadsden Farmer’s Market to move into the shade and to a location with more amenities without losing visibility. In an effort to expedite the move, the space will be used in its current state. The city has partnered with B. Craig Lipscomb, Architect for a long-term plan for the space and further renovations will occur during the off season.

The Farmer’s Market will use the 5th Street Market space on Friday Mornings from 7 a.m. to Noon. as in the past, but the city is looking to expand the use of the space to other types of markets and use of the prime downtown space. Diane Short from Gadsden Parks & Recreation is the Market Manager and will manage the new 5th Street Market.

The first market of the year will be Friday morning June 10th. On June 3 the City will host an Open House and Ribbon Cutting as First Friday gets started. The first 100 visitors at the open house will receive a 5th Street Market reusable shopping bag provided by Greater Gadsden Tourism and Downtown Gadsden Inc. Rendering of planned improvements to the space will also be on display.
