2019 School Board Election




Qualification of candidates began at 8:00 a.m. on February 12 and ended at 5:00 p.m. on February 26.  Please see sample ballots for the April 9 election.

Note concerning polling locations:
Some residents voting at East Gadsden Community Center and Wallace Hall in non-city elections will not vote there in city elections.  District 3 residents will not vote in this election because the only candidate was certified as the winner on 3-5-19.

Registering to Vote

Voter registration forms can be obtained at the Board of Registrars office and on-line at the Secretary of State’s website:  https://sos.alabama.gov/alabama-votes/voter/register-to-vote.  You may also register in person at the Board of Registrars office, which is located in Room 206 in the Etowah County Courthouse at 800 Forrest Avenue (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).  The deadline to register to vote or update a voting record for the April 9 election is March 25, 2019.  The deadline for the May 21 runoff election (if necessary) is May 6, 2019.

Voter Records

Make sure that your name and address are correct on the official voting list—there is no automatic system for updating.  If you have moved or married since the time you registered to vote and you haven’t completed a voter update form, your information is probably not current.  It is also possible that you may be on the inactive list.  The Secretary of State website provides citizens with options for updating their voting records, including on-line submission and downloading forms.  The Voter Registration Form also serves as a Voter Update Form.  To access a printable form, you may click on this link:  https://sos.alabama.gov/sites/default/files/voter-pdfs/nvra-2.pdf.  The completed form will be mailed to the Etowah County Board of Registrars, 800 Forrest Avenue, Gadsden, AL, 35901.  You may also update your voting information in person at the BOR office (Room 206, Etowah County Courthouse).  If you are unsure about your voter record, please feel free to call 256-549-5385.

Absentee ballots

For information, call the City Clerk's office at 256-549-4517 or come to Room 401, 4th Floor, Gadsden City Hall, 90 Broad Street.  An application may be downloaded here.  The last day to receive completed applications for a regular absentee ballot will be Thursday, April 4.  Business emergency absentee ballots will be issued through April 8.  Qualified medical emergency absentee ballots will be issued through noon on election day (April 9).

Clerk’s office hours

Monday through Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The office will remain open until 5:00 p.m. on certain dates, including February 26, April 4, April 8, May 16, and May 20.  

City of Gadsden elections are non-partisan, and no write-in votes are permitted
